Christmas Tree Hunting, Responsibly

Winter in Hyalite can be magical. For many of us winter kicks off just after Thanksgiving with an adventure to find our Christmas tree. And while we may have family and partner debates over the perfect tree, there are common practices we should all follow.

First, you will need a permit. This is super easy, just head over to recreation.gov to get yours online. While you're there scroll down and check out some of the helpful tips to make your tree outing go smoothly in the Need to Know section.

Second, keep these guidelines in mind from our local ranger district before you make your cut: Please do not cut trees in campgrounds, at trailheads or picnic areas and make sure your selected tree is 200 feet from any streams or lakes. If we all adhere to these easy steps we will assure shade in recreation areas and maintain the health of our functioning municipal watersheds.

So, pack the hot chocolate and leftover pie and go get that beautiful Christmas tree, responsibly.
